Sita Robinson — Software Developer

About Me

I'm a Lead Software Engineer who has spent six years building web applications end to end, from React frontends to the APIs behind them. For the past four years I've been at Booz Allen Hamilton working on Recreation.gov, the platform people use to discover and book campsites, permits, and tours across national parks and federal lands. Before that, I spent two years at Vanguard building the Java and Spring APIs supporting their investment platform.

I hold a BS in Data Science with a CS minor from Drexel University and an MBA from the University of Maryland.

Outside of work, my hobbies include building side projects, crochet (amigurumi), landscape photography, quilting, playing Scrabble and traveling around the world. I am a Northern Virginia/Metro D.C. native.

  • Developed frontend for the Recreation.gov customer and administrative applications using React and Redux. Recreation.gov is an e-commerce web application that allows you to plan trips across the United States, including federally managed parks, forests, monuments, and waterways.
  • Worked across the project to develop new features, fixed bugs in the application, performed unit and integration testing using React Testing Library, and deployed the app using ArgoCD. Handle service calls from Go APIs using Axios and Redux. Handle rollouts using LaunchDarkly flags. Implemented and updated features using Figma mockups from the design team.
  • Worked with a mixture of functional and class components.
  • Styled components using SCSS

Recommendation

I was particularly impressed by Sita's ability to dive into tasks, juggle between many systems and technologies, and complete her work with quality while demonstrating thorough attention to detail. As she was learning new things, Sita always tried to make life easier for the next developer, whether by adding documentation or refactoring and cleaning up ambiguity in the project. When I gave Sita a task, I trusted that she would put in the research and effort to get it done with the highest quality. Sita would be an asset to any company or team that she joined. I've loved my experience working with Sita, and I know that anyone looking to hire or work with her will, too.

ELAP Services (now Imagine360)

Data Science Co-op

September 24, 2018 - March 20, 2019

  • Developed a machine learning model to predict customer churn.
  • Leveraged Python packages including Pandas.
  • Used the Microsoft R package MicrosoftML to construct fast forest, decision trees, decision forests, and logistic regression models. Used d3.js for visualization.
  • Preprocessed and transformed healthcare data using Python and R.
  • Developed tools in Python for streamlining ETL processes.
  • Presented at a machine learning workshop on a bi-weekly basis
  • Developed data visualizations using Tableau.

Recommendation

In her first week at ELAP, she wrote a script using the Python programming language to automate an important data cleaning task and eliminate a major bottleneck in our data load process. She went on to write complex database queries in the SQL language to feed several predictive models. Sita shared her knowledge with the company by participating in biweekly Analytics Council meetings and Machine Learning Workshops. She also took the initiative to create and deliver a presentation on machine learning from the data scientist's perspective. She demonstrated outstanding communication and leadership characteristics, and we very much enjoyed having her on the team.

Comcast

Software Engineering Intern

June 19, 2017 - August 25, 2017

  • Developed and enhanced a web-based system used to manage operational IP video delivery infrastructure.
  • Backend development using Ruby on Rails with MySQL.
  • Participated in Comcast's Agile software development processes and lifecycle.

Recommendations

Sita's performance during this ten week period exceeded my expectations. Although Sita did not have any experience with PHP and Ruby on Rails programming languages, she was able to learn these languages in a very short period of time and contribute to our software development projects. I was impressed with her ability to work independently figuring things out on her own, develop features, fix bugs, and integrate with our team practices. She will be a great asset to any company and team.
Steve Tartamella
Manager
Sita quickly got acclimated, and demonstrated an understanding of the project. In a very short time she was turning out work ready for our production system. Sita worked hard and was very productive. She worked independently when necessary and effectively collaborated with other team members when the situation required such. I enjoyed mentoring her. If you happen to be looking for a developer or any other position that Sita is applying to, you would make a great decision choosing her as I would fully endorse the hiring of Sita Robinson.
